On the Situation in Gaza—update

Radical Elders condemns Israel’s genocide in Gaza and the ethnic cleansing of Palestine; we call for a moratorium on  U.S. military aid to Israel until it ceases its gross violations of human rights as per congressional and international law.

Our commitment to elder issues extends to advocating for other human rights protections, including those owed to the people of Gaza, who, since October of 2023, have been victims of a genocide committed by Israel with full United States’ military, political, and financial support.

While the current devastation of  land, orchards, crops, infrastructure, homes, villages and cultural institutions in Gaza is unprecedented, the denial of rights of the Palestinian people has been underway since 1948.  Moreover, the repression is not limited to Gaza, but is occurring throughout the Occupied West Bank, where the settlers’ brazen dispossession of Palestinian land is increasingly ruinous to indigenous inhabitants. Furthermore, Palestinian citizens of Israel have been gradually stripped of their rights to land, water, civil rights, and political representation. Israel’s disregard for human life has been condemned far and wide. Yet the United States government continues to send billions of our tax dollars to support their savage policies.

The residents of Gaza now shelter in rubble or tents and have little or no access to clean water, nutritious food, sanitation, or medical care. Palestinian residents of the Occupied West Bank are being driven from their villages by violent settlers who want the land for themselves.  Palestinian citizens of Israel have been silenced. We in Radical Elders believe that life, housing, sanitation, medical care and free speech are human rights.  We call upon our government, local and national, to support these rights in accordance with congressional and international humanitarian law.
